Writing Poetry for the Moment

$300.00

Tuesdays 7-9PM

Sep 22, 29; Oct 6, 13, 20, 27

A six-week course for adults at any level of experience writing and reading poems. After studying a wide variety of poems, we will create our own verse based on the models we’ve studied. In addition to mastering key elements of poetry writing such as image, line, syntax, we will write for all manner of “occasions,” composing poems about love, loss, nature, place, childhood memories, and many other moments we learn to capture through the lyric. Your poems will be addressed individually with written feedback from the instructor as well as discussed in workshop.

Jill Kress Karn is a poet, teacher, and scholar; she earned her Ph.D. in English from the University of Rochester. Her poems have appeared in Carolina Quarterly, Alaska Quarterly Review, FORMA, and Salamander. She has taught literature and creative writing for more than 20 years at the University of Rochester, Eastman School of Music, Cornell, and Villanova.
